Meet Beignet

Beignet

Beignet: Square shaped pieces of dough deep fried and generously sprinkled with confectioners sugar. Theyโ€™re best served hot and with a good cup of coffee. They were first introduced first introduced to the city of New Orleans by the French-Creole colonists in the 18th century. Beignets at Cafรฉ Du Monde is bucket list item for me.

Beignet

On February 18, 2023 we brought this freaking adorable creature home. His name is Beignet (pronounced “Ben-yay”) or Benรฉ, or Benny. Whichever is easier for you.

He smells like brioche and sunshine. Has a nose that is so soft and squishy, you want to bite it.

Benรฉ was born on Christmas Eve 2022 and is a Water Buffalo disguised as a Goldendoodle. Seriously, when we brought him home he was this little toasty sweet yum puff. While we were counting the minutes until we could bring him home, Andrea of JasperDoodles, sent us a picture of him on a Playschool toddler slide. Of course we HAD to get him a slide just like it so he would feel at home in his new universe. He’s about 6 weeks in the above picture. See? Beignet is the perfect name!

When we brought him home we had everything set up. Slide, bed, crate, toys, proper food, teething toys, the whole nine yards. He had to have his first vet visit within three days of bringing him home so I had that all scheduled and the puppy-seat strapped in the car two weeks before he ever came home.

How sweet is that? That’s my sister holding him, Madam to the left and raggedy-ass me on the right. As a courtesy to all, I blurred us out a bit. Beignet weighed about 12 pounds when we brought him home and I honestly think the bulk of that was his enormous lion paws!

Needless to say he is the love of my life and my Karma for not having children. As of his last visit to the vet, Beignet weighed 38 pounds and hadn’t turned 5 months old yet. Perhaps that will explain my calling him His Majesty the Beast. Let’s do a side by side comparison…

The two pictures above were taken about a month apart. They say he won’t be fully grown until 10 months old. Heh.

Given he is wicked smart, I have got to get on top of his training. You could say I am reverse-crate training him. I lock myself in. I have actually baby-gated myself IN to the kitchen to keep him from snagging my mise en place. Beignet is the Great Butter Thief, Chicken Breast Thief, Wagyu Ribeye Thief, Book Thief, Shoe Thief… basically he is just a fricken’ THIEF! Though I can honestly say he has a cast iron stomach. Maybe he will make a great sous chef one day. Right now, not so much. I’m sure I will post more shenanigans as they happen so stay tuned!
